Some ships are built for the sea.

As brave as we become.

Today, Sparrowful Sorrow EP was made available for download. It’s a surprise how near-raged it sounds at times, the darkness and despair only riding shotgun to some anger I’d apparently built up. At myself, predominantly. Stepping into therapy for the first time ever I suppose will make that more possible. Good thing I escaped with a stronger self-acceptance of my irreparable shortcomings. Onward, graciously.
I can’t wait to play a venue again, with a perennial favorite: Christopher Paul Stelling. Hope to see some of you at the Tin Angel show on the seventh; more Summer shows have been added as well. More than a decade ago I described Spring occurring when “the sun has many colors and the sky has twenty wings,” and nothing has been truer the last two months. Enjoy the last few chilly mornings and long-sleeved days, little birds.

Eager wing.

I’ve gotten some work done this Winter. Tons of new stuff, including Songs For a Red Bird and Some Ships EP, coming in the warmer months. Can’t wait to clean the attic and share the dust.

It’s National Poetry Month; read a collection and summon Spring to your feet.

I am only getting behind.

changes.
It’s the end of another long year that has passed too quickly to really accept. Hymn of Lions was finally released at the beginning of the year, and the newest EP Hello, Traitor closed it out. All past records are now out-of-print and selected tracks can be found on volumes 1 and 2 of Old Waves. We got to play shows with old friends and new, including Caroline Smith, Allison Polans, Nathan Edwin, boog, Divers, Alice Calvery, The Feverfew, and Spirit and Dust (whose new record will be released in February), while also returning to solo performing for the first time in years. Relocating to Bucks County has been beautiful and peaceful, and a road trip across the country and back helped bring some equilibrium to a quiet Summer. I am thankful things are slowing down for the Winter, and look forward to other projects during hibernation. I hope that all your holidays are merry, and I can’t wait to see you all on the other side of the season. Goodnight, traitors.

On the stone at the back of your throat.

On November 20th, the new EP will be available for download on Bandcamp, featuring four brand new songs. Hello, Traitor was recorded and mixed at home this Summer/Fall, with Brad Hinton playing lapsteel and keys. Listen to and download “Heart Carries Blame” by clicking here.
